Three Springs Farm
- sustainably grown from the seed up -
Our mission is to create a farm that is:
- economically viable
- environmentally responsible
- socially engaged
Three Springs Farm believes in connecting our community with locally-produced, sustainable farming by growing fresh, healthy food for Tulsa families. We are committed to selling high quality produce at a fair price. We are passionate about creating an intensive agricultural system that the two of us can manage. Our goal is to stay as small in size as possible, while still making a decent living.
Three Springs Farm is owned and operated by Emily Oakley and Michael Appel. Emily was born and raised in Tulsa, and Michael is originally from Long Island, New York. We have traveled to East Africa, South Asia, and Latin America to study sustainable agricultural systems. We have worked with community gardens in Rhode Island, and apprenticed on organic farms in Northern California for three years. In September 2003, we moved back to Oklahoma to start a small-scale diverse vegetable farm. Emily is interested in heirloom seed saving, and Mike is interested in the social issues surrounding our food system.
Three Springs Farm grows on 4 acres in Cherokee County. We cultivate a wide diversity of hand-crafted vegetables, herbs, and flowers in the spring, summer, and fall seasons, using both heirloom and standard varieties. Our crops includes beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, greens, green beans, herbs, lettuce, melons, okra, onions, peas, peppers, potatoes, radishes, summer squash, sunflowers, tomatoes, turnips, and winter squash. Everything is produced in accordance with organic standards. Some of these practices include:
