Legislative Activities

The Oklahoma chapter works actively to promote legislation that is good for  the environment while also working to block bad bills.  To keep up with the priority bills, please sign up for our e-mail alerts via this link.

  • May 22nd - Final Bill Update for 2009

  • April 10th - Updated bill tracking list for April

  • March 12th - Check out our latest bill tracking newsletter to find out what we are doing at the state legislature. (pdf)

  • Help stop bad legislation.  HB 2151 and S 452 would prohibit counties from setting standards dealing with agriculture making local standards void and unenforceable.  Its a solution to a problem that doesn't exist!  Learn more about HB 2151 in this pdf.

  • We have a new Oklahoma Sierra Club Lobbyist!

    Robert “Bud” Scott received his bachelor’s degree in letters from the University of Oklahoma in 2003, and his juris doctor from the University of Kansas College of Law in 2008. Scott also successfully completed both the tribal law and energy and natural resources certification programs at the University of Kansas College of Law. Bud is a member of the Oklahoma Academy for State Goals, Oklahoma Sierra Club, the Oklahoma Sustainability Network, the Oklahoma Food Cooperative and the Oklahoma Renewable Energy Council. His brother, Rep. Seneca Scott (one of our 2008 endorsed candidates) was recently elected to represent Tulsa’s HD 72. Bud is already working with the Oklahoma Chapter Legislative Committee to introduce several environmental bills for the 2009 Session. After the Session begins February 2, he will attend committee meetings and hearings at the Capitol, provide regular tracking lists of bill status, prepare fact sheets for the legislators, meet with them in person, and send Action Alerts to YOU.

    There are three levels of grassroots involvement/action needed:
    1. Send emails to your Representative and Senator to support or oppose specific bills;
    2. Help Bud lobby at the Capitol occasionally for important votes;
    3. Develop a relationship with your legislators and serve as a liaison to keep him/her regularly informed of our positions.

  • To help, the first step would be to keep up with the priority bills, please sign up for our e-mail alerts via this link and if you need more info, please e-mail sshields@cox.net
