Each of the local groups of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Sierra Club leads a variety of outings both in Oklahoma and other states. Activities include day hikes, backpacks, canoe trips and visits to museums. Each group also does several trail maintenance trips in Oklahoma & Arkansas.

October 19 - Hiking in the Wichita Mountains – Dog Run Hollow day hike
Sunday, October 19th. This is a great hike! Dog Run Hollow is about a
six-mile loop trail. We will leave from the Hobby Lobby (old Target store)
parking lot in Norman at NW 24th and Main at 8:00 a.m. Meet at the south end
of the parking lot by Main St. Participants can work out carpooling details
at the parking lot. Alternatively, meet at the Refuge visitor center at
10:00 a.m. We will hike a variety of habitats and hiking boots are
recommended. Bring snacks and water. After the hike we will stop by the
Riverside Café in Medicine Park. The plan is to be back to Norman by 6:00
p.m. give or take an hour. I rate this trip as moderate. If you would like

| November 2nd - Hiking in the Wichita
Mountains – Pennington Mine day hike Sunday, November 2nd. This hike is
about five or six miles round trip. Hikers should be in good physical
condition and comfortable hiking rough uneven ground. I rate this hike as
moderate. We will hike into the Narrows Canyon where the trial follows West
Cache Creek. The trail crosses the creek several times. The amount of water
in the creek will depend on local rainfall. The mine is not open to
exploring and is blocked by iron bars. The hike in the canyon is very nice.
We will leave from the Hobby Lobby (old Target store) parking lot in Norman
